Capital One gives you three partner paths to El Al. Venture miles reach Qantas, Flying Blue, and Etihad Guest at 1:1, so check all three before committing a single point.
Search Qantas, Flying Blue, and Etihad Guest for the same El Al flight. Etihad says eligible El Al awards can be booked directly on its website or app. Transfer to the program with the better live combination of availability, points, taxes, and booking rules. If none has space, compare using miles against an eligible El Al cash purchase.
Ranked: the Capital One paths to El Al
-
Qantas Frequent Flyer - fixed-chart value. Qantas prices El Al by distance, which can protect you when cash fares spike before yom tov. Search segment by segment and never transfer until the seat is visible. The Qantas trick guide has the current chart and phone-booking fallback.
-
Flying Blue - flexible and easy to top off. Flying Blue can book El Al partner awards and may see inventory that differs from Qantas. Capital One lists Flying Blue at 1:1, and the same program can book Air France or KLM backups if the nonstop disappears.
-
Etihad Guest - the third partner check. Etihad officially lists El Al as an earn-and-redeem partner and says eligible LY-operated rewards can be booked on its website or app. Capital One lists Etihad at 1:1. Search it before giving up, then verify the exact miles, taxes, and rules on the final screen.
Cover an eligible cash ticket - the no-space fallback. Capital One allows miles to reimburse certain recent travel purchases. Check your account for the current eligibility window and redemption rate before relying on this fallback. This is usually a fixed-value use rather than a transfer sweet spot, but it removes the award-space problem. Compare the actual cash ticket against the points and taxes from Qantas and Flying Blue.
The search order
- Search the exact El Al flight on Qantas with points selected.
- Search the same flight through Flying Blue.
- Record points, taxes, cabin, change rules, and how many seats are actually available.
- Check the El Al cash fare.
- Transfer only after you choose the winner and re-check that the seat remains.
Capital One says the minimum transfer is 1,000 miles and that partner ratios vary; its January 2026 list shows Qantas, Flying Blue, and Etihad Guest among the programs at 1:1. Transfers cannot be moved back to Capital One.
When each option wins
- Qantas wins when the fixed chart undercuts Flying Blue and the El Al seat is visible.
- Flying Blue wins when it sees a seat Qantas does not, or when you need points from another bank to top off the same account.
- Etihad Guest wins when it sees an eligible LY-operated seat at a better all-in price. Covering a cash purchase wins when partner space is gone and the fare is still reasonable.
Do not let a temporary transfer bonus decide the booking before you find space. A 20% bonus into an account that cannot see your flight is worth zero.
Capital One is not Matmid
No U.S. Capital One card transfers directly to El Al’s Matmid program. Qantas, Flying Blue, and Etihad Guest are partner-booking paths: the ticket is issued by the partner program for travel on El Al. That distinction affects availability, changes, and whom you call when something goes wrong.
