Aeroplan is the Israel program people mention with one number - “75,000 in business” - and then leave out the part that decides whether that number applies: the complete flown distance.

The short answer

For partner awards between North America and Tel Aviv totaling 4,001-6,000 flown miles, Aeroplan’s June 2026 chart is 42,500 points in economy or 75,000 in business, one way. A connection that pushes the itinerary over 6,000 miles falls into the next band and costs more.

These are North America-to-Atlantic-zone bands effective June 1, 2026. Aeroplan classifies the Middle East, including Israel, in the Atlantic zone. The table above shows the fixed partner numbers Aeroplan published in its 2026 change notice; Air Canada and select-partner awards can price on a range, so always trust the live checkout for those flights.

Why your connection changes the price

Aeroplan adds the distance of every segment. A clean routing from the East Coast can fit under 6,000 miles. A detour through the wrong hub can cross the line even though the trip still starts in New York and ends in Tel Aviv.

That makes segment choice part of the award price. Before transferring, put the exact itinerary into a mileage calculator or add the published distances for each leg. Do not assume every East Coast-to-TLV result gets the 42,500/75,000 band.

Ranked: the Aeroplan routes to search first

How this ranking works: we favor a short flown distance, sane travel time, one-ticket protection, and award space you can actually book.

  1. United nonstop from Newark to Tel Aviv. When United releases partner space, the nonstop is the cleanest Aeroplan result: no positioning connection and no Europe detour. Compare Aeroplan’s price with United’s own dynamic price before transferring.

  2. Air Canada via Toronto or Montreal. These routings are easy to search on aircanada.com, but Air Canada-operated awards can price dynamically rather than at a fixed partner number. The live result decides whether it is a deal.

  3. Lufthansa Group through Europe. Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, and Brussels Airlines can open a useful backup when the nonstops are dry. Watch the total distance: a connection can move the itinerary into the 6,001-8,000-mile band.

  4. A mixed partner itinerary with a Europe stopover. Aeroplan permits one stopover per direction, including on a one-way award, for extra points. If you actually want two trips in one, that can be better than treating the connection as wasted time.

Fees, calls, and stopovers

Aeroplan charges C$39 per ticket when an award includes a partner airline. Booking online is free; the contact center normally adds a non-refundable C$30 service fee. The policy says a stopover may last up to 45 days, with one stopover per direction. Stopovers are not permitted within Canada or the United States.

A family of five should price the fee before transferring: C$39 per ticket is C$195 on one direction, before taxes and any other charges. That does not kill the deal, but it belongs in the comparison.

Step by step

  1. Search one way at a time on aircanada.com with Book with points selected.
  2. Open the flight details and note every segment.
  3. Check whether the full routing stays in the distance band you expect.
  4. Compare the same United flight on united.com and the same Europe option through LifeMiles if available.
  5. Confirm points, cash, and cabin on the final Aeroplan screen.
  6. Transfer only then. Amex, Chase, Capital One, and Bilt all reach Aeroplan; confirm the live ratio in your bank account.
  7. Book as soon as the points arrive.

For a broader map of which banks reach which Israel programs, use the Tel Aviv transfer cheat sheet. If you only care about lie-flat space, compare Aeroplan with the other paths in the business-class guide.
